Workshop One
Evidence and Case Building
Participants will understand the key principles of evidence collection and case building in environmental and climate law cases, including an introduction to expert evidence and a general overview of the trajectory of a case before filing.
Workshop Three
Litigation
Participants will understand what a statement of claim is, where to find the rules for drafting a statement of claim (SOC) and will become familiar with the key elements of an SOC in judicial review cases. They will be aware of some of the key issues that arise when drafting an SOC and how to avoid them. They will have discussed key drafting skills and tools to identify what to include in an SOC.
Workshop Two
OIA and Accessing Public Information
Participants will understand the key mechanisms under the OIA, the types of information that can be obtained under the OIA and will practise designing questions to agencies under the OIA. The group will discuss how to build effective research strategies and how to deal with refusals. Finally, the group will discuss the role that the OIA plays in the arsenal of a public good litigator, with reference to examples from litigation and journalism.
Workshop Four
Campaign & Movement Building
Participants will understand why public support is useful for implementing a successful public good litigation campaign. Participants will have discussed examples of successful and unsuccessful public good litigation campaigns and how groups have used public support to help achieve their goals. They will have discussed some of the key tools they have available and how to develop successful advocacy strategies.
